new to motorbikes

Hey guys I'm new to anything with a motor and 2 wheels so... I'm in need a of bit of guidance. I'm currently trying to trade my 2003 Mustang GT for a 2003 R1 and $2500. Now I know my car isn't perfect but I was asking 7K for it and he was asking 4500 for his bike with 19000 miles on it. my car is priced $800 below KBB so... He did lay down the bike in a some grass because of tank slap and he told me about a check valve or something that he installed (maybe a dampener?). His front fearing is cracked in a few places and missing a 1 inch piece. The chain is also a bit rusty so...it has a power commander. can someone help me out? is he overpricing it? He also has a helmet and jacket he's giving up with it. I didn't get to ride it because it was on the trailer and I don't know how yet but soon enough. I know fearing kits go for around 250 on ebay and I would get some frame slides also. anyone have any pointers?
