Just what the title says, what did you ride before the R1? I had a 00 R6, it was nice but I got it as a learning bike and because of my size decided to step up to the R1.

learned on a ninja 250, played with an 02 R6, wifed a 06 R1

First bike was an '81 Suzuki GS450S, stepped up to a '00 Suzuki SV650S, then '99 R6, finally my dream bike - '05 R1.

I'm willing to bet that most of us are former R6 owners:myfault

1- 92 Vfr400 - 1 year sold when I left Japan
2- 93 Cbr400 1 year sold when I left Japan
3- 94 Fzr600 1 year and crashed.....HARD
4- 98 Yzf600 1 year put 30,000 miles on her before some bitch backed over it
5- 03 Yzf600 1 year put 40,000 miles on her before I sold her
6- 04 Yzf R6 8 months, put 20,000 miles on her before I crashed
7- 06 Yzf R1 6 months, put 15,000 miles on before her destruction
8- 07 Yzf R1 2 weeks 2,000 miles on her...

Just out of curiosity, what was the life span of these unfortunate bikes?:p

2 '00 yamaha 600r crashed on sand near beach :-(
3 '00 r6 had it for about a year...sold it....6mon later the guy totals it
4 '01 R1 owned it for 4/5mon
5 '03 R1 LE owned for 3/4mon
6 '04 R1 still have after a year
7 '03 honda 600rr still have after 9mon and thinking about selling to get a '06 r6

my first bike was a Rupp 5hp mini bike at age 6. My dad yelled at me for going 45 mph down the dirt road and trying to do wheelies in the yard where there was a small hill coming from the driveway .... and he took the bike away. :( but then when I was 15 I had a three wheeler.....

Hi,
I would seriously recommend you buy a bike with a quarter of the power until you are actually able to properly ride a bike. People I know say that its a challenge just keeping the front wheel of a 1000cc sport bike on the ground, they are insanely powerful. Reconsider.
