: opinions on difference between R1 & R6
shortyr6 07-13-2005, 05:39 PM since this forum is dead.
post up some specific differences between the R1 & R6 (for those that owned both), or any comparable 600cc.
To me the 04 1 is just like riding the 6 but alot more grunt.:D
The power delivery is very smooth all the way through.
I'm Talking Twisties here, not comuting around city streets.
On the six you have to ride it at high rev's and it feels twitchy when you going through the corners if the road is a bit bumpy, cause the bike is so responsive in that range.
So on the 1 you can do the same speeds at alot lower revs and have all that power coming out at you disposal:D
I can ride ride the 1 faster through the twisties than my 6 only because of the comfort factor. It just feels so smooth.
We all know that the tighter the track the six would be quicker with the same rider .
They are both great bikes and it would be a BUZZ to have both in the garage:D
dr1fty 07-15-2005, 09:28 AM I dont have a 6 but I have ridden one at deals gap. For thoes of you that know Deals gap is probably one of the tightest roads in America. 318 turns in 11 miles. Im begging for an R6 when Im there. the 6 is a great bike but I think it feels under powered after riding my 02 R1. On a track the 6 is like... hhheeeerrreeee we gooooo....oh thats it:rolleyes: hey guys come back, guys come on wait for me
Slickpitt 07-15-2005, 10:05 AM R1 obviously has more power.... but it seems just as flickable as my '03 R6 was... best of both worlds IMO! ;)
mar1tian 07-15-2005, 03:16 PM I like the look of the R1 better, it feels more comfortable then my R6 and it feels more stable in the corners. There is obviously more power but it has alot more stopping power too .... first time out on the new r1 I did a stoppie by mistake :D For some odd reason though I felt more comfortable on the bigger R1 than the R6 and it felt easier to ride I dunno maybe its just me but I just love this R1.
DoubleZ R1 07-15-2005, 05:19 PM IMHO not much to compare. Almost double the horsepower with a few mods. Handling is the closest match. Braking on the R1 is superb and the feel is much more immediate than the R6. Looks & fit and finish on the R1 are also much better. But the bottom line is with that much more power, your whole riding style changes, your whole attitude changes.
I'm with you mar1tain,
The 1 does feel more stable in the corners, I think that is due to the fact that on the 1 you are riding at a lot lower rev's for the same speed.
I love the fact that you can just leave the 1 in third gear and it has the balls to pull hard out of the corners:D
At my local track there is only 2 corners that I drop back to 2nd, the rest of the time its 3rd gear all the way, untill the straight that is:DevilWink
baer42 07-16-2005, 12:36 AM Last time I rode a 600 was 1990. I would like to ride a newer one for fun sometime
DmanR1 07-30-2005, 05:26 PM I have owned both a 02 R6 and my 04 R1. All I have to say is the R1 is a power house makes me wanna :weeping sometimes, fuker is scary :lol . But as far as handling, The R1 is a match if not better in the corners then my R6 was.
VaHyPeR6 08-11-2005, 04:38 PM I think you guys are comparing apples with oranges here! Handling is going to feel different as well as power delivery. As far as the "twitchy" feeling of the R6, i just put 01 R1 forks on the 6 and she's as stable and smooth as a bike could be. Bike feels a ton better but i guess i still dont have the hp for easy getaway!!!
asphaltpilot 08-12-2005, 02:36 PM The R1 is a better bike as a whole
In the R6's favor:
Lower price
More forgiving on the track.
slickwillie 08-22-2005, 07:06 PM Well since my R6 was stolen last week:bigsadeyes, I'm am pondering the R6 vs. R1 question. From the sound of it, I should get the R1. For the guys who made the jump from the 6 to the 1, does the bike feel heavier when leaning it over? If so, How much more?
Slick, I can garantee that the R1 will feel much better when leaning it over.
Because of the grunt in the bike you wont have it reving as high as the 6, this in it self gives you a more stable feeling.
Go for the 1 you want be dissapointed.
And If you get the 6 you will always be wondering about the R1:beermug
scorpio 08-23-2005, 01:46 PM i have an old 99 r6 i am going to use for track, i was thinking of getting the new r6 but i am open to an r1 instead.
what are the weight different, I am only 5'6?
Scorpio,
Your 99 R6 would most likely be just as heavy as the 05 1.
The R1 is 200kg's fully wet ( oil and fuel )
As far as Hieght, I think the R1 has a lower seat height than the 6.
slickwillie 08-23-2005, 07:45 PM Well I guess I'm getting an R1 next year.:thumbup

Are you hiring, cause I'm willing to relocate:p
aar0ncee 09-16-2005, 07:37 PM ive had both bikes... at the same time... in reality i found the R1 sitting in the garage most of the time... but that was mainly because i had put pilot powers and some other suspension and ride upgrades on the R6. im sure that was the reason. the 05 R1 was slightly less flickable than the 04 R6, but it was a much better package as a whole. the throttle was way less twitchy and very smooth power delivery. i think vhyper is mistaken about what ozy means when he says twitchy in the corners... hes not talking about your forks or suspension... hes talking about going thru the corner at a high rev (R6 powerband) and then hitting bumps. when that happens, even if you have awesome throttle control, the fucker gets twitchy. R1 you dont have that problem with its smooth power delivery.
this year the R6 is going to race only, and im getting another R1 for street and its getting full hookups on suspension... oh wait... i bought the R1LE, it comes with everything already :D
another good thing about the R1 is that the seat height is much lower... i can easily put both feet down and maneuver the bike...
the R1 is also geared to freakin high for the street. 1st gear feels like horseshit when u pull off the line... it almost feels like your lugging the engine til you get to about 4k if i remember correctly. im defenitely dropping a tooth upfront when i get my new one. (for those of u who dont know, i lowsided my 05 *thanks dunflops*)

Yes thats exactly what I was talking about:D
aar0ncee, good review of both the bikes :thumbup
Oh and Congrats on the LE R1 lucky bastage:D
aar0ncee 09-18-2005, 05:26 PM Oh and Congrats on the LE R1 lucky bastage:D
:D
Minge 09-20-2005, 05:53 PM Oh and Congrats on the LE R1 lucky bastage:D
+1 from me as well:D
aar0ncee 09-21-2005, 09:02 PM to tell you the truth, im not to crazy about the yellow just yet... if it doesnt grow on me, i might change out the colors. all i care about is the wheels and fork setup.
symmo 09-23-2005, 11:28 AM Great thread....
im going to be part xing the 6 for a 1 next year...
was going to get another 6 but my heart wont let me :)
so a r1 it is....
tetsuo 10-12-2005, 06:03 PM I recently purchased an r1 a few months ago. I love it. At first.. i didn't notice much different... but now, as I sit and ride on a r6... they are two different bikes.
The r1 has a longer wheelbase... which in turn cause the front to not come up as fast. But, with the extra power in the r1, the extra torque compensate for it. The r1 is also a bit heavier and is all around a bigger bike than the r6.
I feel that the r6 is definately more flickable in the twisties... and easier to slam around. I dont hit the higher rpms on the r1 as much as I did on the r6... which I totally miss. I actually like riding at a higher rpm... it feels that I have more control with the throttle and the extra engine breaking is a plus in my opinion when you are up that high.
The r1 feels sluggish at lower rpms... but so does the r6. Overall, it really depends on what kind of riding you mostly like doing. The r1, I feel is a better street bike... since you dont have to change as many gears. But if you're doing canyons/track.. then I think the r6 best suits that kind of riding.
Wheelies... well... the r1 is definately easier to keep the front up. I am very satisfied with my r1... and the looks is icing on the cake!!! Hands down... it is better looking. But when the 06's come out... well.... based on looks-wise... I think it will be a toss-up!
