: Proof I had a reason to join
albinohickey 11-08-2006, 01:00 AM Well I never really had a reason to visit the R1MN, but now I do. Here's my mint 99R1 :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/R1005.jpg
It's good a project bike as I got it for what I could probably sell the engine for. So this winter it will go from ugliest R1 on the R1MN to full on race bike for track days. My R6 is probably a much better track tool, but if/when this one goes sliding into the dirt I wont be crying (as much).
Or you could become a ICY HOT STUNNA :rollin
That will be a good winter project :beermug
albinohickey 11-08-2006, 06:08 PM Or you could become a ICY HOT STUNNA :rollin
Rollin hard yo! Actually that's what it was. I got just just before it was bastardized with huge sprockets and riser bars.
asphaltpilot 12-13-2006, 11:46 AM Any work on this so far?
albinohickey 12-13-2006, 11:57 AM Any work on this so far?
Actually a ton :D Too bad it still looks about the same. I just got a battery tray, new choke cable, a windscreen recently, thanks again tim, and got all the electronics organized in it. (Old setup was wiring harness and relays sitting inside the tail section with 1/4 a battery tray.) Also Daveypoo welded up the subframe for me. :worship So now it just looks like a bike with no plastics.
After x-mas I'm hoping to have all new case covers, chain and sprockets, frame sliders, SS brake lines/HH pads, little bolts here and there, and a tune up on it with some help From EliR6. I was hoping to do up a photo update after that because she still looks 100% POS :lol But I'll post one up when I get home though.
Post up some progress pics :D
albinohickey 12-14-2006, 12:16 AM Well I don't have much, but I'm taking photos after each step.
Here's it after taking it apart as much as needed for the welding.

And here's the new battery tray

Really the bike needed all the little things organized and accounted for first. Now it's time for the race bits. :hyper
And damn my garage looks messy, the bike is of course dirty. :lol I swear the R6 is clean.
Looking good mate :beermug
Oh and bikes are ment to be ridden and put away dirty :D Just ask Aaronce and Chunk :lol
albinohickey 12-17-2006, 01:32 PM ^ I knew you'd understand. :lol Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have some good photos of new bits for this thing. Probably wont look much like a real bike till I get plastics.
Cletus989 01-03-2007, 09:00 PM More Photos!
albinohickey 01-04-2007, 03:13 PM I know! I have a gaggle of parts ordered, but they aren't here yet. Dang snow storms :angry
Did get a full 520 conversion, but waiting for a new master link to finish. Still a box of much needed misc. nuts & bolts, hoses, etc. should be on my doorstep right now, and my new woodcraft case covers and clip-ons are ordered up. So I'll toss up pics when this thing is running again and looking the bizznas. :greensqui
aar0ncee 01-04-2007, 06:43 PM I know! I have a gaggle of parts ordered, but they aren't here yet. Dang snow storms :angry
I love how CO peoples get 12" of snow and call it a storm :dance
albinohickey 01-04-2007, 07:13 PM ^ Well it was on top of the 23 or so we got. Us Colo. peoples are used to it snowing and melting, at least in the Denver area.
Probably kind of like how AK racers win a few races against 5 people in the tundra and think they're fast. :p
Cletus989 01-19-2007, 09:30 PM is it done yet???
albinohickey 01-23-2007, 03:51 PM :lol No. It's cold here in CO. and I'm lazy. Right now the woodcraft case covers, 520 conversion and a new stock clutch case cover are on. Once I get the brake lines and clip-ons on I'll snap a photo with me riding the bitch. Then it's bodywork, tires, a damper and track dayzzzzz.
Edit: Here's some pics with all the new stuff. I just need to get some oil and new plugs and she "should" fire right up.

albinohickey 02-19-2007, 07:44 PM Well it's not much of a cosmetic update, but I finally got it running. Let me say that messed up carbs, 1/4 turn throttle, bad rear tire, 1K power and sand don't mix well. No real corners yet, but this thing is a beast. Makes power/tq so low. It's nothing like my r6 or even some new 1K's I've ridden. Good stuff. My corner exit speeds will be way up.. :lol
Me in my workshop clothes out and about. (Think there's enough sand?)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/r1006.jpg
And the new Tromex race tail on it. I would have all the race plastics mounted, but I have to replace my fairing stay first.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/r1-2003.jpg
Cletus989 02-19-2007, 08:24 PM you need a new exhaust :D
albinohickey 02-20-2007, 10:26 AM Well if I do anything with the exhaust it will be just cutting it down a bit. Really that's a low priority at the moment. Plus it's so huge it will make a great frame slider if needed. :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/r1006.jpg
ICY HOT STUNA :p
Looking good , I bit your hanging out for the track :beermug
albinohickey 02-21-2007, 10:12 AM You know I tried to wheelie that thing from the get go. Just about spun the rear out from under me. :lol I really, really can't wait to get on the track with it. Still a ways to go though.
Not a good idea to try that with snow and water on the ground :p
albinohickey 02-22-2007, 12:02 PM :lol give me a little credit. I did it on the longest, clean street I could find. I think the rear tire is the OE Dunlop 207 so yeah it's a little gone. I did gear the bike down too. It's a hadnful...
albinohickey 03-19-2007, 10:45 AM Plastics mounted boys.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/rwizz007.jpg
And paint (in my garage :p) Stuff is still tacky so it wont go on for a while. Plus she has to take a visit to the nearest race shop to get some stuff sorted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/bobert95/rwizz011.jpg
Karonic 03-19-2007, 03:13 PM You painting yourself? I wish I knew how to paint, I would do a custom job for my bike. I looks like you have all the right tools too, thats probably 90% of the job.
albinohickey 03-19-2007, 05:49 PM Yep a friend and I did it in my garage. He's a house painter and pretty much just had to buy auto paint and use his own stuff. Handy guy to have around.
The white came out well. I could have done a better prep job and paid for it with some fish eye in spots, and I couldn't get the YAHAMA off the tank well enough before it was painted (1 day paint deal). So it's not a full on pro job, but good enough.
Have to paint the front wheel tonight, get some buns mounted and take it in for it's final check up and it's ready. The next photos will probably be the finished product. :dance
teh shocker 04-05-2007, 02:38 AM Looking good so far, can't wait for the finished product.
Cletus989 04-05-2007, 12:26 PM Lets see it
albinohickey 04-05-2007, 02:48 PM ^ :lol I swear you know when I'm about a day or two away from an update. The bike is about to be picked up from it's final tune up at the shop will be done on Sat. It probably would already be done, but my wife's appendix decided it needed to be out yesterday, so I've had no time to pick up the 1.
Cletus989 04-07-2007, 03:44 PM gets to post pics
