Well I did it, I joined two MNs. :lol For good reason too. I might have a fantastic lead on a beat to crap, but very trackable 99 r1. Just wondering what you guys think of it in general and if there's anything I should look out for?
Here's the deal:
• 1999 R1, 12K miles, no title, VIN is clean, bought as a salvage bike.
• Subframe is cracked, frame is supposedly straight but has some scratches
• New front end and wheel off a 98 R1, rear all original and good
• Engine runs strong
• Leaks some oil out of an engine cover (see picture, what cover is that? Strator?)
• Says he's had it up to 100 mph recently to check it out and it "feels" solid.
All in all it doesn't look too bad. Would need track skins, new clip-ons/controls, case covers, and some general love. Also the price is good, so don't sweat that. I just need something to hit the track with and keep the 03 R6 in perfect conidtion. My main concern is with the frame really, any way to check that onsite? Don't want to be balling down a straight at 150mph with a bent frame.
Pics attached. (Also I saw the 99 only had one recall, a coolant hose. No 2nd gear issues?)
