Hi All, I have just purchased a 2000 R1:D and I need some advice??

I have had a lot of bikes over the years and currently own a Ducati Monster S4, The 916 engine model..!! I love the torque of the Duke. Now to the R1..!!

Over the past years I have heard stories about the notorious R1's and how they have scary power and are very fast....!! My question is what should I expect from my 2000 model? I have ridden it for a couple of weeks now and yes, it is fast, it will power wheelie in first gear but that's all. I was told by someone that it should power wheelie in 1st 2nd and maybe even 3rd,
I can only get 1st..... The guy I purchased it from said it may be due for a service. would the need for say new plugs or maybe air filter be the reason for the down in power or have I been told a tall story?? Don't get me wrong, it is a fast bike but please let me know what it is really capable of ??

It has 40,000kms on it but sounds good, no rattles idles well.....??

Regards Iceman

Monters are notorious for wheelies. Its geometry. R-1's will wheelie np but you have to punch it to something that would throw you on your ass on your monster. The R-1 takes off so fast with the front tire on the ground I am happy keeping it there.

Thanks Majnoon, I guess the Monster and R1 are very different pedigree's,
I love riding them both..

Cheers..:hyper

Iceman, congratulations on your purchase. I, too, recently acquired a '00 R1 blue/white with only 4,000 miles. Only driven it for 3 days and I've pulled a handful of unintentional wheelies at 1st gear at mid-rpms. These bikes are definitely of a different class. Good luck and ride safe!
