I sold my R6 last year and have been wanting to get a new bike. I am considering buying an R1 that is for sale locally. I was wondering if you guys could help me out and let me know if it's worth the money? I'm also debating if I should just get another R6? Also curious for insurance advice.

it's a BLUE 2002 R1 w/ 7700 miles. Pretty much stock, except for the turn signals, windscreen, and the exhaust. clean title, and VERY clean bike! The guy wants $6600 or best offer. I'm sure I could get it for $6k, but I was thinking of offering $5500.
I checked on my insurance and it w/ $250 deduct. (collision), $100 deduct. (comp) full coverage would be $830/yr.
If I went with a $500 on collision, it would take it to $730.
However, if I had a minor mishap...I wouldn't turn it into the insuance anyways. If I totalled it, I don't think I would be worrying too much about the bike unless I didn't get hurt. I will be paying cash for the bike (if I buy it) so I was thinking about just doing the liability AND comp. That would cost $430/yr.

And before you ask, yes I am an experienced rider but I ride sensible. Occasional wheelie, but I'm not a nut job! hahahaha

oppinions?? advice??

Offer him $5500 like you said and go from there. you can go to www.nada.com and see what the value of the bike is. Insurance is up to you.

I was thinking the same thing after talking to the guy last night.

He first put it in the local paper for $6600 OBO and said that he wouldn't take less than $6200. Well, it's a month later and no offers. I offered him $5500 as a start and I may have went to almost $6000......HOWEVER.....now he says he won't go lower than $6500 WTF????
so I told him that's fine. I'll keep my eye out for another one. Besides, it's two generations old, so you can't possibly think you are going to get full book value out of it.

No biggie! The only thing is they good deals are rarely close to me! LOL I would like to have an 04 R6.....sweet.....I would probably even settle for an 03 for the right price.

I had a Black and Red Flamed 03 R6 and it was a GREAT bike.

There are three classes of insurance claims adjusters: staff adjusters (employed by an insurance company or self-insured entity), independent adjusters (independent contractors hired by the insurance company) and public adjusters (employed by the policyholder). "Company" or Insurance Claim Adjuster ( http://www.thepublicadjusters.biz/ )adjusters can only legally represent the rights of an insurance company.
