The Akrapovic Evolution II full-titanium exhaust system for the 2009-2010 Yamaha YZF-R1 is a work of art. This exhaust, is significantly lighter than stock and – on Akrapovic’s in-house dyno, also shows marked improvements in power output when compared to the OEM dyno graph without any tuning modifications. In fact, Akrapovic claims their full systems add 7.8hp over stock, add to that a custom fuel map or a map built by a Dynojet Autotune (http://www.r1messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4105) or Bazzaz Z-AFM (http://www.r1messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4102) self-tuning kit, and you can expect to see even bigger power gains along with improved throttle response. Of course, the exhaust produces a pleasing tone and after a few miles, will exhibit a nice blue color along the headers.
The Evolution II exhausts differs slightly from the Evolution and Racing Line full systems with the addition of balancer pipes that are welded between cylinders 1-2 and 3-4 which are designed improve exhaust scavenging and, as a result, mid-range power output when compared to the older design. We’ve also noticed the mufflers are slightly shorter on the Akrapovic Evo 2 exhaust that on the Racing and Evo versions, boosting top-end performance.
