Hey guys, planning on picking up the 2004-06 R1 really soon.
I was just wondering, whats the power difference between the 2002 R6 and the new R1s? I remember when i first bought the R6 the power scared me, but the more and more i went on track, i was like COME ON LETS GO ALREADY!!!
So is the R1 like retardedly powerful, that if i pin it in 4th the wheel will come flying up or is the gearing enough to keep it pretty calm after 2nd gear?
I just don't want to kill myself on too much power. But at the same time i F***in' love the R1 and i want that power!!!

Thanks

either you are really really fast on the track and have outridden your r6... or you do not know the potential of your r6 yet. of course the liter bikes will beat you on the straights... but definately... the 600 bikes are alot better leaned over. when i had my r6, i loved it and felt easier to flick it in the canyons. dont get me wrong.. the r1 is great.. but definately a bit more oomph to lean it over campared to the 6.

they are both different machines and somewhat difficult to compare. apples and oranges. i upgraded not becaue the r6 was too slow... i upgraded cause i wanted the sexiest bike out there. in alot of ways, i really miss my r6.

the power on the r1 is not uncontrollable like alot of people think... but it will definately scare ya when you wot.

I find the power of the r1 very controllable in the lower rpm range, which i love in the curves. Alot less twitchy while leaned over like it was on my 05 r6 (much smoother throttle). But after 7-8000 rpms the r1 really comes alive. After the first time i really opened up my 06 i couldnt believe what i was missing out on with the r6. The wot power of these litre bikes is absolutely insane. They demand alot of respect from the rider. I dont recomend you getting and r1 and trying to push its limits right from the start if you have never ridden one before.
