Disclaimer - this test was done in the middle of nowhere on a flat known road.....

The question is - does the speedo go past 189MPH? I hit this 4 times in a row, and felt like it was still accellerating past it. Has anybody had simular experiences?

I have quite a few mods on the bike now, so it is possible. I realize it is not actual speed, but just what the speedo shows...

So is there a fix for this? Goal is to hit the salt flats in Utah this summer and see if it will go 200MPH.
Speedo healer maybe? GPS?

Just upgrade the speed ometer llike me.

My NEW speedO has cabon fiber shell (76% lighter that that big ass bulky stock one and it shaves .0032 pounds off the bike (that's 3.2milipounds er u couuld call it 3200micropound improvment if you are super geek)).

The needle is is titanimum so it tells you your speed really fast bec ause it's so light it registers quiker.

There's only (1) trip odometer insted of those three fuckin odomerters that wheigh you bike down, and oh- the carbon fiber shell is teflon coated so there's like no wind resistance.

but seriously....plot a course in the sand....

time how long it takes you (for EZ math..say you do the above course in 1hour) then do math- in this exsample..you went 1mile per hour

who knows what the top speed is on a 2001 R1 cause ive read specifications and they said it tops out at 167 mph but ive hit 175 on mine and it seemed like it could have kept goin.

Mine is completely stock except for an full exhaust and I have hit 187 and it didn't seem like it would go very much further.

My son used the GPS--Especially with Mods--200+ shouldn't be a problem--

new to the scene .have 2009 r1 dealer stated some type of mod so the bikes can be sold overseas that will just let it register 189 .

does anyone know if you can interchange instrument clusters on the '98 R1 with any other R1 like 2001 or 2003
