Well I figure if I can't have one, I can at least dream and hang around people who do . . .

Most of you know me from R6MN.

You must have missed the thread on R6MN. According to the guys over there I don't know how to ride, so in the Spring I'm selling my ZX-6 and all my gear. Giving up riding; so no R1 for me.

Well to be fair, I haven't ridden one. Haven't had the opportunity. Maybe it is stupid to choose a bike I feel extrememly comfortable on just sitting still. I can say that I don't feel comfortable even sitting still, balancing an R6. I'm barely on my tiptoes on the 6.

Even if you were, practice makes perfect.

Perfect,

It makes sense that you are comfortable sitting on the 1. It is VERY important that your feet can touch the ground. :thumbup

I dont know about the new 06 R6 but my 03/6 was taller than my 04 R1.

You seem like you have a brain and will know how to ride the R1 to your capability.

Good luck with your choice:beermug

Yes Aaron you did. :thumbup But I'm still coming to steal your R1 :wink I don't really want to start the whole debate over again, but my questions related to the weight differences between my current bike, an R6, and an R1, I still feel weren't adequately answered. My ZX-6 (dry) is 430 lbs. Does it make more sense to go to an R1 (390lbs, older; 375 lbs newer) or an R6 (357 dry) for me to feel comfortable without huge adjustments in the way I ride?

the R6 will be incredibly easier for you to handle. from my experience the R1 is very agile but it is not as sharp as the R6 simply due to size. the R1 is bigger, and you can tell. Not by a lot, but just a bit. And the extra power can get you into trouble if ur not used to it. I'm not a very big guy... only about 150lbs, but i prefer to have the bigger bike. i feel more at home with it... buti dont think i would feel that way if i hadnt put a million miles on an R6 before hand. when i ride an R6, i abuse it. I throw it around like its a moped... it has nothing to do with weight tho, just the fact that i have gotten used to the inertia on it and what imputs are needed on the bars. The R1 needs a lil more imput here and there and the inertia i am still adjusting to. The R6 is going to be sooo much more forgiving in corners and coming out of corners,... and defenitely in the straights... its your money tho, do what you would like... the new R6 is defenitely not a noob bike and i thought long and hard about buying one... but i just felt like i wanted another 1000

Perfect,

Can yopu tell me what sort of riding you will use it for and what is your riding style ??

Sure. I've talked to friends who've told me we have no curves here, lol, so I guess a curve to me is nothing like what you guys are talking about using the 6 for. I know it's no Dragon, lol. I might head towards the mountains eventually since my parents live in Asheville, but we're talking Parkway.

For the most part it will be what few curves are around Greensboro, commuting to work (interstate), and maybe one trackday, just to see what all the fuss is about. I tend to ride by myself most of the time. I don't stunt, EVER and when I speed or "race" it's only on roads I know extremely well. I never got above 120 mph on my 600 in eight months. Not because I was scared or didn't have the road; I just didn't see the point. I just started learning clutchless upshifts last month.

So you can see I'm a pretty basic rider; no fancy stuff.

^ Then if the bike feels comfortable for you, then you will NOT have a problem with it.

Ok, so I may get to find out just how well an R1 fits me. Went to hang out with some new people I met in Greensboro and this guy, Chad, is doing a trackday Sunday and wants me to come along.

I told him it was going to be 50 degrees, I wanted to ride, and my bike is FAR from ready for a track day. He said "so ride the R1."

Yup, so it looks like I'll be doing my first trackday on a 2005 Shift Red R1 with 3500 miles on Sunday. Woohoo.
