Hi, recently I had my 18,000 klm service on my '00' R1 - i wanted to put a K&N Filter on my bike, my mechanic suggested not to.
He said once you start mucking around with the Air intake, things might not always work as good as they should.... I dont know if he was "dumbing" it down for me or not, but I'd love to know if there was any truth to what he was saying or he just didnt want to walk his lazy ass up stairs to the spares office.
thanks,
Daniel
Hey Onewheel,
I think you need to find a better mechanic, Find a guy who loves tuning bikes.
Where abouts in Sydney do you live ?
There is a great shop in Mona Vale, called motorcycle weaponry. Very good with playing around with bike performance.

i wouldn't recommend the K&N myself as they have proven to sometimes hurt performance. If you are looking at a high flow filter go with BMC. These filters out-flow K&N and stock filters. Changing your filter will have little to do with tuning as the air/fuel ratio is hardly affected so extra tuning when adding just a filter is NOT necessary.

I have the K&N filter on my '05 R1! It works great - my bike is complete stock as for performance. I did does a little top end but low RPM between 5k and 7k is much better!
