(edit) My questions are for the 01 R1. I thought it was 02 model i was after but I did some some digging and this confirms it
http://www.cyclepartsnation.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx
I thought the 02 model had the double lights and not the bar

I did do some research that Yamaha/kawasaki/Suzuki do offer parts 10 years after the bike is sold and it should not really be a problem ever buying parts. I do have a few questions.

1. What are the problems that this year of bike had? Major and small
2. Can a 01 tail bolt on to a 03 and not look funny?
3. What parts from the later years fit a 01?
I am searching for information but for some reason I am getting zero matches for 2001 R1 problems maybe there are none. The 02 R6 has tranny problems.

Personally i have had no problems with mine. mind you i have covered 50K+ miles on the clock with 0 problems. some stuntguys complain that the 2nd gear usually gives way to problems of the gearbox, but i say, you can always run into problems if you thrash it. i have tons of mods on it with no problems and am very proud to own one. i have had the 99 and the 00 models in the past, and by far (after testing the 06 and 07) it is the best one yet (for me at least)

i cannot even dare think of changing the way it looks. just fine as it is IMO

If your a hard enough rider the first generation R1s had a head shake problem. Other than that great bike! Hell of a lot of power in 1st gear especially.. Lauch that bike with the front on the ground is pretty much impossible with out some sort of launch control which I don't even think you can find for that bike anyway.. Great Choice! The Champions editions are one of the best looking R1's ever in my opinion but by now good luck finding one that still in one peice and doesn't look like crap from dumb squid mods

jason.. u won't loose much power if any at all but the bike will sound like total crap.. Get you a good slip on.. They're much smaller than the stock pipe and will sound a lot better. Not sure but you might see some exup problems from modifiying the exhaust like that. It could cause the engine light to come on possibly too.
