I purchased a laptop a few years ago for school from Dell. It was a pretty nice setup but after 1 year of use I started having problems on the regular and up till my call last week they have been becoming more and more frequent. Since the beginning of this year I have had to make service calls on maybe 10 occasions which has come out to at least once a month. At this point the computer is 3 years old and with all the replaced parts it's basically brand new.
Off the top of my head parts replaced this year have been:
2 motherboards
2 video cards
3 Power supplies
1 LCD screen
^ Thats just this year!!!! I replaced over 6 CD drives over the life of this POS.
So last week after having my laptop fixed just 2 weeks earlier, it just died on me in the middle of a game of Xeno Tactics http://www.thenewbestsite.com/playGame.php?gameId=31
I was on level 6 wave 91!!!! Just 9 levels from beating the game!!! Needless to say I was pissed! I though maybe the cord had come out form the back of the laptop but nope. The laptop would come on but only for a few seconds. So I called dell again for another power supply thinking that was the problem, but that did not fix it so I called again and after being passed around like a cheap whore and hung up on a few time I finally got through.
Keeping my anger in check I calmly explained to the gentleman that I have been having more problems with this computer than a single mother trying to collect child support. After trying to diagnosis the problem the guy offered me a new computer. My mood totally changed then. I was planning on selling this thing after I got it fixed and while it still had 6 months on the warranty but now thats taken care of. Only problem is that now I will have vista but hey, its still a new computer.
This is the second time I have been impressed with Dells customer service but I have been let down much more. I guess you could say this almost makes up for it but I will NEVER . . . . . . EVVVVVER buy a Dell again. Thank god I got the biggest warranty I could get or I would have sunk more money into this thing than it was worth.
Its been about a week and a 1/2 since the call and it should be here tomorrow. :dance
Clift notes -
3 year old laptop is a lemon
Dell offers to give me a new one.
Morale of the story?
Always get the extended warranty on electronics!!!
