About 2 days ago I got into an accident with my R1... the only problems with the bike are all cosmetic. Headlight, and right side plastic fairings.... my questions are pertaining to fixing the bike.

What years for the r1 are the plastics interchangeable? any interchangeable with the r6?

Are aftermarket plastics on ebay any good? fitment?

I recently did a carb-synch on the bike, but afterwards the speedometer stopped working (tach still works). I double checked my work twice and re-opened the bike too.. but couldn't figure out what was wrong... any ideas? There are no missing plugs....

Also, one last question is that... one of the spools broke on the bike... and is the only method to remove it to tap the screw out? ...

Fairings for your R1 are interchangeable with 00-01. 98-99 lowers are different but they will mount on your 01, if you go this route you may want to purchase both sides to have an even look. I doubt that any r6 fairings will fit your R1 without heavy modification. Be careful with purchasing any kinds of fairings on e-bay, not everyone can be trusted. As far as the aftermarket plastics go I've heard only bad things about them and their quality; remember, you get what you pay for.

As for your tach I dont know how to help you with that except to tell you to get a new one.

Your spools will need to be tapped, end of transmission . . . .

The first gen bikes are known to have speedo/tach problems. My gauges like to works sometimes, sometimes they don't. Are you sure you have everything hooked up correctly?

Really? cause 00-01 fairings are completely different from 98-99

They are saying exactly what I said in my post. I said the 98-99 lower fairings will fit.

meaning they look different but the will mount up. If he purchases both sides he won't have two different looking fairings.
